Dear Friends,
Below is a list of just a few resources nationally and in Texas (because that’s what I know). I want to encourage you to go after the help that you need for your child and yourself. Don’t give up! The system is not an easy one to navigate, but there is help, you just have to find it. I want to include a list here of resources that will be different for everyone but may be a jumping-off point for some of you who need help and are just too stressed to think straight.
Talk to your pastor- There may be people in your church who are resources that you do not know about.
Let your family help you.
Talk to the diagnostician at your child’s school. (Little known fact: Often the public-school system will provide services for your child, even if you homeschool. Call the district office and ask to speak to the special education coordinator. I homeschooled my oldest son when he was in pre-k and the school district provided speech therapy for him twice a week.)
Talk to your child’s doctor(s), they will have more resources than you can imagine and most of them are very happy to help you get help.
Look around for other parents of children with disabilities, you need that support from someone who understands and so do they.
